Tom Tregellas

 

In the 1920’s Tom Tregellas set up a log hut on the Hardy gully slope, in the heart of Sherbrooke forest. He was the first person to band lyrebirds in Sherbrooke, finding as many nests as possible and banding the chicks he could find.

Unfortunately bird bands were not as strong as they are today, resulting in them falling off, and many of the banded birds were predated, making it incredibly to track any after fledging.

Recently a book has been published by BOCA, written by Esther Hardware from Tecoma on the life of Tom Tregellas. She knew Tom and recorded notes on him and his projects with the lyrebirds throughout his life. To purchase this book go to:
